Fireweed Commences 2022 Drill Program at Macmillan Pass

Fireweed Metals CORP. ("Fireweed" or the "Company") (TSXV: FWZ; OTCQB: FWEDF, formerly known as Fireweed Zinc Ltd.) is pleased to announce the 2022 diamond drilling program has started at the Macmillan Pass zinc-lead-silver Project, Yukon, Canada.

The first two of four drills are turning with the final drill arriving at site shortly. Even with the late start we anticipate drilling over 7,000 metres this summer to make it the largest drill program Fireweed has ever carried out at the Project."

The 2022 program includes four diamond drill-rigs, targeting over 7,000 m of drilling divided between four zones, a reduction from the expected 8,000 m initially announced due to the late start. The Boundary zones are open in every direction, and the 2022 program has been designed to test step-outs around the peripheries of Boundary and Boundary West, in addition to testing a potential connection between the two zones. The step-outs will include testing potential down-dip continuation of the recently discovered high-grade stratiform mineralization at Boundary West (see Fireweed news release dated March 10, 2022), and testing for additional massive sulphide mineralization in the near-surface. Three of the rigs will operate at Boundary and Boundary West where the majority of the drilling will occur.

The fourth rig will drill Tom West, Tom North, Jason, and Jason South subzones targeting select extensions and other parts of these four large zinc-lead-silver deposits. The holes at Tom West will focus on providing infill within high-grade zones where the current mineral resource is supported by small-diameter historic diamond drill holes with very poor recovery in the higher-grade portions of the holes. Fireweed sees potential to increase zinc, lead, and silver grades in these areas by drilling modern larger diameter holes, as demonstrated in previous Fireweed drill programs (see Fireweed news releases dated 10th October 2018; 13 th November, 2018; 20 th August 2019; 10 th September 2019). The drilling at Tom North will target a step-out of the near-surface mineralization that is potentially amenable to open-pit mining. The drilling at Jason and Jason South will target high-grade step-outs.

By the end of the 2022 campaign, Fireweed will have four seasons of additional drill data to inform new mineral resources for the Project, including an inaugural resource for the Boundary, Boundary West, End Zone, and Tom North zones, and an updated resource for Tom West, Tom East, Tom Southeast, Jason and Jason South subzones.

Fireweed Metals Corp. (TSXV:FWZ,OTCQB:FWEDF) is a Canadian mining, exploration and development company focused on advancing its Macmillan Pass zinc–lead–silver project in Yukon, Canada. Fireweed Metals has two large SEDEX deposits —Tom and Jason — and the company is confident that it can make additional SEDEX discoveries. Following the release of the resource, Fireweed Metals released the results of a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) for the project in May 2018 outlining an 18-year mine life with 32.7 million tonnes of mineralization at a processing rate of 4,900 tonnes-per-day.

In 2022, Fireweed Metals signed two separate agreements to acquire significant large claims on the western extensions of the Boundary Zone and the Fertile Corridor in the Macmillan Pass area. The first agreement with QuestEx Gold & Copper Ltd. (TSXV:QEX) is composed of 410 claims covering a total area of 74 km2. The second agreement with two private arms-length individuals comprises 1,582 claims covering an area of 318 km2. The expansion further leads to a large area of zinc, lead and silver targets.

Since releasing the PEA, Fireweed Metals has continued its exploration efforts at Macmillan Pass. Recently, the company provided new diamond drilling results from the last two holes at Boundary West and a synopsis of its 2021 exploration results and work program. The results included drilling highlights in step out holes of 8.22 percent zinc and 53 g/t silver over 60.68 metres, and 7.71 percent zinc and 32 g/t silver over 46.96 metres. A new discovery assayed 23.77 percent zinc, 3.44 percent lead and 75.7g/t silver over 10.42 metres in stratiform mineralization similar in style to the Tom and Jason deposits.

Subsequently, the company mobilized its first field crews to the Macmillan Pass for a large $10 million 2022 drill program. Considered Fireweed's largest drill program to date, the company plans 8,000 meters of diamond drilling with two-thirds of the metres will be step-out and infill at Boundary Zone and Boundary West and the remaining metres split between Tom and Jason.

Fireweed also solidified its claim as one of the leading critical mineral exploration companies after acquiring 100 percent interest in the Mactung Tungsten Project located in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, Canada, immediately adjacent to its Macmillan Pass Zinc-Lead-Silver Project. Through staking, the company also acquired the Gayna River project at a very low-cost. Abundant zinc-lead-silver mineralization was discovered at Gayna River in the 1970s and Rio Tinto drilled over 28,000 m in the late 1970s resulting in a large tonnage exploration target.

The Macmillan Pass zinc-lead-silver project is located approximately 200 kilometers northeast of the community of Ross River in the Selwyn Basin of Yukon, Canada. Hosting 12 large SEDEX-type deposits, the Selwyn Basin is one of the world's most recognized basins for this type of deposit. Fireweed Metals' Macmillan Pass is nearby to Selwyn Chihong Mining's Selwyn (Howard's Pass) project which contains one of the world's largest undeveloped zinc deposits.

The Tom deposit was discovered in 1951 by Hudbay Minerals and the Jason deposit was discovered by the Ogilvie joint venture in 1974. Hudbay acquired the Jason deposit in 2007, combining the two deposits for the first time into one project. Fireweed Metals signed an option agreement to acquire 100-percent of the Tom and Jason claims from Hudbay in December 2016.

In August 2017, Fireweed Metals quadrupled the land area of its Macmillan Pass project with the acquisition of the adjoining MAC claims from Newmont Mining. The MAC claims cover the contiguous northwest extension of the same geology and mineralization trends that host the Tom and Jason deposits.

Fireweed Metals again added to the size of the Macmillan Pass project with its acquisition of the Nidd property from a subsidiary of Teck Resources (TSX:TECK.A or TECK.B,NYSE:TECK). With this acquisition, Fireweed Metals has consolidated the Macmillan Pass zinc district and now controls 544 square kilometers of highly-prospective zinc claims.

In January 2018, Fireweed Metals announced its mineral resource estimate for the Macmillan Pass project. The resource included the resource estimate already completed on the Tom and Jason zones on the property. An NSR cut-off grade of $65 was used to calculate the numbers in the table below.

The Macmillan Pass project represents an opportunity for upside potential. The footprints of the Tom and Jason deposits are quite small compared to the substantial size of the entire land package. Additionally, while approximately 70,000 meters of historical drilling was carried out on the Tom and Jason claim areas since their discovery, a vast majority of the current Macmillan Pass land package (including the MAC and Nidd claims) remain largely unexplored by modern exploration techniques.

Significant potential remains to expand the known mineralization at the Tom and Jason deposits at depth and along trend. Historic exploration activities on the MAC claims were limited to early-stage work in the search for gold, however, several areas of zinc and lead geochemical anomalies were discovered in stream sediments and soils.

Fireweed Metals is testing that potential via an exploration campaign aimed at expanding the known mineralization on the Tom and Jason claims. The program also includes aerial and ground reconnaissance over the MAC claims to delineate targets for further exploration.

In 2022, the company released new diamond drilling results from the last two holes at Boundary West together with a synopsis of its 2021 exploration results on the Macmillan Pass Zinc-Lead-Silver project. The drill results included a step-out hole NB21-009 at Boundary West intersected 14.0 percent zinc, 0.2 percent lead, and 57 g/t silver over 3.05 metres within a broader stratiform zone grading 4.9 percent zinc, 0.7 percent lead, and 34 g/t silver over 21.6 metres. The 2021 Exploration Program featured multiple wide zones of high-grade mineralization including stratiform layers, massive sulphides, veins, stockworks and replacements. Highlights in step out holes included 8.22 percent zinc and 53 g/t silver over 60.68 metres, and 7.71 percent zinc and 32 g/t silver over 46.96 metres.

In 2022, Fireweed Metals announced its acquisition of the 37.6 km2 Mactung Project in Yukon and Northwest Territories, Canada, immediately adjacent to its Macmillan Pass Zinc-Lead-Silver Project. Mactung is one of the largest and highest-grade tungsten deposits in the world. The area features skarn mineralization developed in carbonate rocks near contact with a granite intrusion. Historic 2007 indicated resources totaled 33.0 million tonnes grading 0.88 percent WO3 (tungsten trioxide) plus historic inferred resources of 11.8 million tonnes grading 0.78 percent WO3.

The Gayna River Zinc project located in Northwest Territories, Canada which contains the critical metals zinc, gallium, and germanium in addition to lead and silver. The acquisition was made at a very low-cost by staking 128.75 sq-km of mineral claims in NWT. The area is known for 28,000 meters of historic drilling by Rio Tinto which outlined impressive large-tonnage exploration targets.

John Robins is a professional geologist with over 35 years of experience mainly as an independent geologist and entrepreneur. The ground gravity survey will comprise several grids targeting the areas of highest geological potential. The survey is underway and is being conducted by Aurora Geosciences. A relatively tight station spacing of 50 m is being used, as the search space has already been narrowed down by focusing on specific geological targets. The intent is to use ground gravity to directly detect subsurface density anomalies associated with potential massive sulphide bodies that may lie within approximately 100-200 m of surface.

A state-of-the-art LiDAR survey will be flown using a fixed wing aircraft this summer. The survey will gather data to generate a very high-resolution topographic surface that will be used to assist the gravity survey by allowing the calculation of a high-resolution terrain correction that is necessary for accurate interpretation of the data in areas of rugged relief as well as providing a base map for future exploration work.

Fireweed has been awarded a Mining Incentive Program (MIP) grant from the Government of the Northwest Territories to assist the exploration program. The grant is valued at up to $132,000, significantly reducing the cost of the exploration program for Fireweed.

Gayna River Geology and Mineralization

The Gayna River project is being explored for a potential Kipushi-style target: high-grade zinc-rich massive sulphides. The steep to vertical sides of Neoproterozoic carbonate reefs are being targeted for steeply dipping massive sulphide lenses that may have been missed by previous exploration efforts using vertical holes in historic drill programs. A focused geological mapping and modeling program will refine the search space for this geological environment using high-resolution aerial photographs taken as part of the LiDAR survey, a compilation of historical geological information in 3D, and boots-on-the-ground geological mapping and ground truthing. Fireweed Zinc LTD. ("Fireweed" or the "Company") (TSXV: FWZ; OTCQB: FWEDF) is pleased to announce that the first field crews have been mobilized to the Macmillan Pass Property, in Yukon, Canada to prepare for a large 2022 drill program. Significant improvements are being made to the camp to support the four-rig 2022 program. Diamond drilling, core scanning, and a muon tomography survey will begin in the coming weeks after the access road opens.

Boundary Zone is open in every direction, and the 2022 program has been designed to test step-outs around the peripheries of Boundary Main and Boundary West, in addition to testing a potential connection between the two zones. The step-outs will include testing potential down-dip continuation of the recently discovered high-grade stratiform mineralization at Boundary West (see Fireweed news release dated March 10, 2022), and testing for additional massive sulphide mineralization in the near-surface. Three of the rigs will remain at Boundary Zone where Fireweed anticipates drilling approximately 5,800 m.

The fourth rig will drill Tom West, Tom North, Jason Main, and Jason South, targeting approximately 2,300 m between these four large zinc-lead-silver deposits. The holes at Tom West will focus on providing infill within high-grade zones where the current mineral resource is supported by small-diameter historic diamond drill holes with very poor recovery in the higher-grade portions of the holes. Fireweed sees potential to increase zinc, lead, and silver grades in these areas by drilling large HQ diameter holes using triple-split tubes to improve recovery, as demonstrated in previous Fireweed drill programs (see Fireweed news releases dated October 10, 2018; November 13, 2018; August 20, 2019; September 10, 2019). The drilling at Tom North will target a step-out of the near-surface mineralization that is potentially amenable to open-pit mining. The drilling at Jason Main and Jason South will target high-grade step-outs

By the end of the 2022 campaign, Fireweed will have four seasons worth of new drill data that will be used to inform a new global mineral resource, including an inaugural resource for the Boundary Main, Boundary West, End Zone and Tom North zones, and an updated resource for Tom West, Tom East, Tom Southeast, Jason Main and Jason South zones. Fireweed will use the new resource to inform a new Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for the project.

Fireweed contracted GeologicAI to scan all 2022 drill core as well as a significant portion of the core from Fireweed's past programs and some of the historic core from the previous operators. The scanning will include high resolution digital photography, LiDAR topography, shortwave, visible, and near infrared hyperspectral imagery, and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) scans. Fireweed anticipates using this information to inform geometallurgical models of the deposits that have potential to deliver value by optimizing the upcoming PEA.

Working with Ideon Technologies, Fireweed will deploy muon detectors in two drill holes at Boundary West. These detectors will be used to define the geometry of the known zinc mineralization at Boundary West and target additional mineralization in the area. East dyke swarm has multiple Li-bearing (spodumene) dykes up to 27 m wide, located 600 m to the east of the Kraken discovery dyke

Sokoman Minerals Corp. (TSXV:SIC) (OTCQB:SICNF) ("Sokoman") and Benton Resources Inc. (TSXV:BEX) ("Benton") together, (the "Alliance") are pleased to update shareholders on the drilling progress at both the Kraken Lithium and Grey River Gold projects in southwest Newfoundland

Early in 2022, the Alliance completed the first-ever drill campaign for lithium on the Island of Newfoundland at the Kraken Lithium discovery on the Golden Hope JV Project. Six diamond drill holes tested the original Kraken discovery-dyke area where selective surface grab samples returned values from trace up to 2.37% Li2O. The winter drilling program verified the existence of significant lithium-rich dykes flanking the regional Bay d'Est Fault where hole GH-22-01 intersected 0.94% Li2O over 8.4 m. Important structural information was obtained from the drilling including the presence of relatively flat-lying dykes, as well as folding in the system. The flat-lying dykes are significant, in that the bulk of the lithium mineralization at Piedmont Lithium's Piedmont project in North Carolina lies in flat-lying dykes linking subvertical dipping dykes.

In May and June, 2022, the Alliance constructed a ten-man exploration camp and mobilized an excavator and diamond drill rig to the project site. To date in this exploration phase, the Alliance has completed further mapping, prospecting, trenching, and an additional 2392 m of drilling in 13 drill holes. The new drilling has targeted the East Dyke swarm, which is 600 m to 650 m to the east of the Kraken discovery dyke, intersecting multiple spodumene-bearing pegmatite dykes, over core lengths of up to 27 m while also gaining a better understanding of the geological setting of the dykes for future targeting.

The drill program is shut down for a scheduled crew break with drilling to recommence in two weeks. The Alliance will continue with regional exploration in the area including mapping, prospecting and soil geochemical sampling over this large and prospective area.

As part of the planning process, historical exploration and drilling data were analyzed, including 10,000 m of drilling by Aurora Platinum and Inco Limited, and airborne geophysical surveys by Aurora Platinum and Temex Resources. The Company has confirmed numerous drill targets, including step-outs within known areas of mineralization and new exploration targets in areas with no previous drilling. Dr. James Mungall, P. Geo., and Ike Osmani, P. Geo., advised management.

Exploration plans at W2 include:

At the centre of the property, a program of systematic step-out drilling will enable the Company to determine the continuity of mineralization and potentially expand historical resources as per the standards of NI 43-101. Currently, at least seven zones of significant Cu-Ni-PGE mineralization have been identified at wide spacing. For example, drill holes LH-01-05 and LH-01-06, which are located 4 km apart with no intervening drill holes, contain both wide sections of lower grade Copper Nickel Palladium Platinum mineralization and narrow sections of higher grade Cu-Ni-Pt-Pd mineralization. The historical drilling suggests a high level of continuity in the Cu-Ni-PGE mineralization.

Maxwell plate modelling of geophysical anomalies will be carried out to assist with selecting final drill hole locations and orientations.

Mineral exploration permit applications are ongoing in relation to the proposed work programs with drilling planned for the winter 2022/23 field season.

The W2 Project is a district-scale land package comprising 784 mining claims (823 cells) and covering over 16,000 hectares (160 km 2 ) at the southwestern extent of Ontario's Ring of Fire. W2 controls one of the major Oxford Stull Dome complexes, including the layered mafic-ultramafic Lansdowne House Igneous Complex ("LHIC") which is highly prospective for copper-nickel (Cu-Ni), platinum group element (PGE), and chromite deposits. Historical drilling along a 7.5 km folded corridor near the centre of the land package has identified widespread Cu-Ni-PGE mineralization across the widely spaced holes.

Overall, the system shows strong parallels with the nearby Ring of Fire Intrusive Suite (ROFIS), with which it may well be coeval. At the LHIC, there is an ultramafic body within an area spanning 7 x 4 km, associated with a similar volume of gabbroic rocks, and there is a nearby ferrodioritic to ferrogabbroic intrusion hosting massive titano-magnetite layers.

The Company continues a program of community engagement and information-sharing with First Nation communities in the vicinity of the project.

W2 Advisory Board and Management Appointment

A W2 Advisory Board has been formed by the Company and appointment of a Director of Operations and Community Relations. The W2 Advisory Board will advise and assist management as the W2 project moves forward. Three professionals with substantial industry and project-related experience, including Dr. Mungall, and Mr. Osmani have been appointed to the advisory board.

He is now a Professor of Earth Sciences at Carleton University, where he teaches Mineral Deposits.

Ike Osmani has 35 years' experience in field-based mineral exploration as well as resource development and research encompassing geological mapping, geophysical data interpretation, diamond drill program supervision, core logging, field project planning and supervision, and preparation of NI 43-101 technical reports as a Qualified Person ("QP"). Mr. Osmani was the Principal Consultant for Aurora Platinum, who oversaw exploration and drilling at what was then called the Lansdowne House Project, now W2, in the early 2000s.

Platinex's Annual General and Special Meeting ("AGSM") of shareholders was held in Toronto, Ontario on July 13, 2022. At the AGSM, 65,222,477 shares were voted, representing 32.04% of the outstanding shares and all resolutions passed with at least 99.47% approval. The following resolutions voted on an individual basis included appointing the following directors: Greg Ferron, James R. Trusler, Felix Lee, Christophe Vereecke, and Sam Kiri. The Muskwa Project is comprised of the Neil Property, the Toro Property and the Bronson Property located in northern British Columbia. See Figure 2 below.

In addition, we have reported on the Book 9 and 10 which may be the southern extent of the Book 6, the sampling on the 428 central and now the results of the 428 South copper occurrence, which may be the southern extension of the 428 Central. See Figure 3 below."

A total of fourteen rock samples were collected on August 25, 2021 at the 428 Occurrence and the slopes hosting the veining and an east trending valley to the south were prospected.

An exposure of quartz-carbonate veining was discovered in a ravine trending southward into the valley, 1.65 kilometers along strike south from the southernmost exposure of the 428 Central Occurrence, (see previous release dated July 20, 2022).

The vein strikes 024 degrees and dips 85 degrees west, is exposed along ~20 meters and contains trace to 1% chalcopyrite. Two chip samples were collected at elevations between 1,549 and 1,726 meters, with sample D-723476 assaying 0.77% copper across 0.30 meters, see Photo 1 and Table 1 below.

Chip sample D-723478 contained a higher copper content of 1.04% across 0.50 meters, see Photo 2 and Table 1 below.

The 2 grab samples (D-723486 & 489) taken of the vein had 0 to trace amounts of chalcopyrite and low copper assays of 0.001 & 0.01%, respectively. At lower elevations of 1,623 & 1,650 meters, in a parallel trending ravine, 200 meters to the east, 2 quartz-carbonate float samples (D-723487 & 488) were collected. Chalcopyrite content was 1% and the samples contained 1.58 and 0.81% copper, See Table 1 below.

Approximately, 350 meters south of the exposure sampled on the slope, 8 float samples (D-723474, 479 and 480-485) were collected in the east trending valley, at elevations of 1,539 to 1549 meters.

Mineralization of up to 40% sulphides was observed in these samples. Three samples (D-723481, 484 and 485)contained over 1% Cu, with samples D-723481, 484 and 485 assayed 5.22, 2.51 and 1.58%, respectively. The remaining 5 samples had a copper content between 0.51 and 0.93%, see Table 1 below.

All samples taken were photographic and a GPS location taken, plus a metal sample tag left in place for future reference if required. All this data plus the assay results were geotagged and placed in a .kml /.kmz file for use such as google earth for easy reference. See Photo 3 below.

Analytical results of sampling reported by Fabled Copper Corp represent rock samples submitted by Fabled Copper Corp staff directly to ALS Chemex, Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. The Company has completed approximately 70% of a three-phase metallurgical test program aimed at validating and optimizing the flowsheet parameters outlined in the PEA and to support continued development of the Project. Phase 2 of the program had the following key objectives:

Figure 1 shows the Baptiste nickel recovery flowsheet as presented in the PEA. Highlighted within this figure are the unit operations which are the focus of each respective testwork phase.

Phase 2 of the metallurgical testwork campaign was overseen by Jeffrey B. Austin , P.Eng., President of International Metallurgical and Environmental Inc. Table 1 presents a summary of the Phase 2 testwork program, including general scope assignment by laboratory.

The objective of the mineralogy variability testwork was to improve the understanding of nickel speciation at Baptiste and to provide insight into the relationship between awaruite grain size and DTR nickel. Detailed mineralogy was conducted on six mine phase composites samples representing the 35-year mine life envisioned in the PEA, as well as other composites from key historical testwork campaigns.

A key outcome of the testwork was finding that nickel mineralization at Baptiste is present only as awaruite (Ni 3 Fe) or nickel sulphide minerals. This supersedes a historic understanding that indicated approximately 10% of nickel was present as solid solution within silicates. The more detailed mineralogical work involved more exhaustive scanning microprobe analysis using QEMSCAN tools and longer scanning durations, confirming that previously reported solid solution nickel is actually very fine awaruite contained within a silicate matrix.

The mineralogical analysis indicated that awaruite accounts for 85-92% of total nickel content across the six mine phase composite samples. The balance of the nickel mineralization (8-15%) occurs as nickel sulphide minerals, most notably heazlewoodite and pentlandite. This confirms that awaruite is the dominant nickel mineralization across the Baptiste deposit, and that this mineral occurrence is relatively homogenous across all mine phases. The high content of awaruite, and the processing advantages associated with this style of mineralization, is the result of the virtual lack of sulphur in the host rock at the time of alteration.

Assay analysis of the composites indicated a range of 0.20-0.25% total nickel, with 50-70% of the total nickel reporting as DTR nickel. Comparing these assay results with the mineralogical results indicated the difference between DTR nickel (50-70% of total nickel) and awaruite speciation (85-92% of total nickel) correlates strongly with the percentage of very fine awaruite (less than 5 microns).  This result was expected as the DTR test is essentially a metallurgical test to identify the proportion of awaruite of sufficient grain-size to be collected by magnetic separation.

The strong correlation between DTR nickel and awaruite grain size is shown in Figure 2. It is noteworthy that the PEA's starter pit ("PEA Testwork" and "Mine Phase 1AB" datapoints) has the lowest proportion of fine awaruite within the resource, which aligns with the higher DTR nickel grades during the early years of operation. This provides confidence in the selection of the Baptiste starter pit location, which provides increased nickel production in the early years of operation due to the generally coarser, more readily recoverable awaruite.

In addition to improving the understanding of the Baptiste mineralogy, these results also demonstrate the value of using the DTR assay method as a geometallurgical tool. Very fine awaruite and nickel sulphides are not captured in the DTR test, nor are they currently targeted for recovery in the PEA flowsheet (though both represent future recovery opportunities). This finding helps validate that the DTR nickel grade filters a significant portion of metallurgical variability from the Baptiste resource. As such, projected metallurgical recoveries on a DTR nickel basis will be significantly less variable than recoveries on a total nickel basis, thereby increasing the confidence in the basis of the Baptiste resource and the associated recovery projections.

As reported in the summary of the Phase 1 metallurgy testwork campaign (see the Company's December 8, 2021 news release), magnetic concentrate (principally containing awaruite and magnetite) was produced from pilot testing material approximately representative of the Baptiste resource. This pilot plant utilized closed circuit grinding with cyclone classification which, as planned, resulted in preferential grinding of the dense awaruite particles. While this preferential grinding tangibly lowered magnetic separation tailings grades, it also resulted in the significant hold-up of awaruite within the grinding circuit, resulting in a lower-than-expected flotation feed grade (2.2% observed versus 2.6-2.7% expected).

Batch and locked-cycle flotation testwork has demonstrated the ability to produce high-grade flotation concentrates, routinely exceeding 60% nickel, with select tests achieving grades of up to 68% nickel, despite the lower flotation feed grade. These high-grade concentrates are possible due to high nickel tenor in awaruite (Ni 3 Fe).

Metallurgical recoveries in optimized open circuit roughing tests yielded nickel recoveries of up to 91%, while locked cycle testing yielded nickel recoveries of 87% to the cleaner concentrate with nickel concentrate grades ranging from 60 to 66%. Flotation conditions were largely comparable to historic metallurgical testwork, validating the PEA flotation conditions.

While recovery values are less than the PEA flotation stage recovery criteria of 94%, the current SGS flotation results were impacted by the lower feed grade owing to the hold-up of nickel in the pilot plant grinding circuit. As comparable flotation tailings grades were observed across the current and historic flotation programs, and previous testwork indicated that coarse, liberated awaruite is readily recoverable in flotation, it is anticipated recovery estimates would increase if the flotation feed material was more representative.

In addition to affirming the PEA flotation reagent regime, Phase 2 testing included an alternative flotation regime targeting higher flotation slurry pH conditions, therefore requiring reduced acid addition rates. Optimized bench tests under the alternative flotation regime showed positive results with near identical recoveries and concentrate grades, but with a 25% decrease in acid consumption, thereby indicating a potential for reducing flotation operating costs versus the 2020 PEA.

Given the results described above, the scope and duration of Phase 2 testwork has been extended to pursue opportunities to further improve the flotation regime and overall results; results of this expanded portion of the Phase 2 testwork program are anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Building on the results of Phase 1 piloting, Phase 3 of the metallurgical testwork campaign includes larger-scale pilot processing, with the intent to both optimize the PEA flowsheet and to produce a significant quantity of high-grade awaruite concentrate for hydrometallurgical testwork. The pilot testwork is being conducted at Corem in Quebec City . Progress to date includes bench- and pilot-scale testing of the primary grind/magnetic separation and regrind/magnetic separation unit operations. Key initial findings of Phase 3 pilot testing are presented below, and the full results are expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2022.

As noted above and previously released by the Company, the initial pilot-scale testing in Phase 1 indicated potential DTR nickel recoveries up to 5% higher than those observed in previous bench-scale testing, owing to the preferential grinding of the deposit's dense awaruite nickel mineralization using cyclone classification. However, due to the feed rate and duration of this Phase 1 initial piloting, substantial hold-up of nickel (estimated 20-40%) was witnessed within the grinding circuit. As such, this led the Company to undertake larger-scale piloting, utilizing higher feed rates and longer operating duration in order to reach steady state operation.

The Phase 3 primary grind and magnetic separation campaign processed a total of 16 tonnes of feed material over a cumulative duration of 80 hours (as compared to Phase 1 piloting which processed 3.6 tonnes over a cumulative duration of 23 hours).  Similar to Phase 1 piloting, Phase 3 piloting saw significant hold-up of dense awaruite, and it took an estimated 11 tonnes of material over a cumulative period of 54 hours to reach steady state operation, indicated by equivalent DTR nickel grades in the fresh mill feed and the cyclone overflow.

At steady state, the DTR nickel recirculating load was approximately 700%, compared to the overall mill recirculating load of 300%.  Once steady-state conditions were reached, a clear preferential grinding benefit of dense awaruite particles in closed circuit grinding was observed with a 5% DTR nickel recovery increase relative to open circuit grinding on the same sample. Consistent with the results of the Phase 1 program, these new results continue to indicate the potential to achieve nickel recoveries up to 5% higher than the 90% DTR nickel primary magnetic separation stage recovery assumed in the 2020 PEA.  Better liberation seen in the pilot plant work, due to cyclone classification, is also contributing to a reduction in the mass recovery during magnetic separation at comparable or better nickel recoveries.

As a further optimization opportunity, additional pilot plant trials with modestly increased magnetic separation field strength demonstrated that a further 1-4% nickel recovery could be realized with a relatively low increase in mass recovery. Further testing and evaluation of varying magnetic intensities is planned during the remainder of the Phase 3 program. Complete results will be presented when the pilot campaign is complete.

The Company's Decar Nickel District claims cover 245 km 2 of the Mount Sidney Williams ultramafic/ophiolite complex, 90 km northwest of Fort St. James in central British Columbia . The district is a two-hour drive from Fort St. James on a high-speed logging road.

Decar hosts a greenfield discovery of nickel mineralization in the form of a naturally occurring nickel-iron alloy called awaruite (Ni 3 Fe), which is amenable to bulk-tonnage, open-pit mining. Awaruite mineralization has been identified in four target areas within this ophiolite complex, being the Baptiste Deposit, and the B, Sid and Van targets, as confirmed by drilling, petrographic examination, electron probe analyses and outcrop sampling on all four targets.  Since 2010, approximately US $28 million has been spent on the exploration and development of Decar.

Of the four targets in the Decar Nickel District, the Baptiste Deposit, which was initially the most accessible and had the biggest known surface footprint, has been the focus of diamond drilling since 2010, with a total of 99 holes and 33,700 m of drilling completed. The Sid target was tested with two holes in 2010 and the B target had a single hole drilled in 2011; all three holes intersected nickel-iron alloy mineralization over wide intervals with DTR nickel grades comparable to the Baptiste Deposit. In 2021, the Company executed a maiden drilling program at Van, which has returned promising results comparable with the strongest results at Baptiste.
